SprinkleBit offers a social investing platform built around its Value Prediction Index (VPI), which scores stocks based on community predictions and scores users on prediction accuracy. Users can trade risk-free with SprinkleBucks, follow other users' trades, and move into brokerage mode to buy and sell real stocks. The VPI is based on CEO Alexander Wallin’s undergraduate research at UCSD, and the team has invested effort to ensure compliance with FINRA as it combines social features with real trading. The company also provides educational content through SprinkleBit University. It monetizes via an $8 commission per trade and a $9.95/month premium subscription that lowers commissions to $5 and adds data and tools. Launched in 2012, SprinkleBit currently reports about 10,000 users and is preparing a serious marketing push to "start on-boarding the masses." SprinkleBit is relocating its headquarters from San Diego to New York City and has raised a total of $13.5 million to date.
