Spruce Up is a Seattle startup building an AI-powered home shopping platform that recommends products from a catalog of more than 25,000 items curated by home stylists. The startup is a spinout of Madrona Venture Labs; co-founders Mia Lewin and Mike Dierken have backgrounds at eBay, Amazon, and McKinsey, and the company currently has eight full-time employees and nine part-time stylists. Spruce Up is building an AI and designer-powered one-to-one personalized shopping service for home and design, pairing customers with a dedicated stylist or "shopping sherpa." The service uses data science to augment the stylist experience and curate hand-picked items that fit a customer’s style, budget, and needs. The company emphasizes saving consumers time and reducing costly mistakes when translating online inspiration into real spaces. Spruce Up was incubated at Madrona Venture Labs and is led by founders Mia Lewin and Mike Dierken, who bring ecommerce, design, and technical expertise. The company announced an initial round of funding of $1.5 million and says it expects to launch later this year. Spruce Up is based in Seattle and is still in stealth while preparing for its public debut.
