Square Roots
630 Flushing Ave Unit 375, Brooklyn, NY, 11206, United States
Overview
Square Roots operates hydroponic farms inside long metal shipping containers and incubates food entrepreneurs through a yearlong training-and-production program. Each class selects 10 participants who both learn urban farming and grow product in Square Roots facilities. The company says each container can produce more than 50 pounds of leafy greens per week while requiring only eight gallons of water per day. Its farmers distribute greens to more than 80 offices in New York City and also work with local restaurants. Launched a year ago in Brooklyn, Square Roots is accepting applications for its second cohort and is selecting a city for a second location. It closed $5.4 million in seed funding to accelerate hardware and software projects and expand its programming to support more entrepreneurs.
