The company plans to use new funding to build out its recruitment business and expand internationally, with versions planned in Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Founded in 2008 and based in New York, Stack Exchange is positioning itself for either an IPO or a private equity outcome. Stack Exchange operates a fast-growing network of community-driven Q&A sites covering topics from programming to cooking, photography and more. The company recently changed its name from Stack Overflow to Stack Exchange to reflect a strategic focus on expanding its network. It plans to use the new funding to support rapid growth and to explore and develop new offerings and revenue streams, including the re-launched Stack Overflow Careers 2.0 job search and recruitment site. Operating metrics cited in the announcement include nearly 20 million unique monthly visitors, about 95 million page views in February, an Alexa rank placing StackOverflow.com at 126th, nearly 800,000 registered users, and a Careers index of more than 23,000 developers searchable by employers. Leadership highlighted the organic, community-driven model and continued site launches as drivers of future growth. The company says the funds will help scale the network and capture additional opportunities to monetize expert knowledge.
