Standard Nuclear
200 Europia Ave., Oak Ridge, TN, 37830, United States
Overview
Standard Nuclear manufactures TRi-structural ISOtropic particle (TRISO) nuclear fuel, a ceramic- and carbon-coated uranium pellet designed to be more meltdown-resistant than conventional fuel. The company arose from the bankruptcy of Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) after Decisive Point’s founder acquired USNC’s fuel assets for $28 million. Standard Nuclear reports roughly $100 million in non-binding TRISO fuel orders slated for 2027 from customers such as Radiant Energy and Nano Nuclear Energy, both developers of advanced reactors. Management argues that, as more AI-driven electricity demand pushes small modular reactor deployment, reliable TRISO suppliers will be critical. The company believes its inherited know-how and early start position it to meet that demand ahead of other contenders. However, execution risk remains high because its fortunes are tied to customers successfully scaling reactor manufacturing. Prior to the present raise, the firm had secured $42 million in seed funding when it emerged from stealth seven months ago.
