54 King St, New York City, New York, 10014, United States
Overview
Starship develops and operates autonomous delivery robots and is launching its first commercial food-delivery service at George Mason University in partnership with Sodexo. The service will serve the campus population of about 40,000 students, faculty and staff, with 25 robots at launch delivering from Blaze Pizza, Starbucks, Dunkin' and other retailers. Deliveries average 15 minutes or less and cost $1.99 each; each robot can carry up to 20 pounds. Starship's robots have completed more than 25,000 deliveries to date, and the company has previously begun package deliveries in Milton Keynes, U.K. The company has also run pilot programs with DoorDash and Postmates in Redwood City and Washington, D.C. This deployment is described as Starship's first truly commercial autonomous food-delivery rollout, and the company has raised capital to support its operations. Starship is a robotics startup that builds autonomous delivery robots. Swiss Post has invested in Starship to explore possible autonomous delivery solutions it can employ. Investiere.ch advised on the deal but did not invest. Swiss Post said it seeks startups in ecommerce, mobility, digital financial services, digital trust, cross-channel communication, business process outsourcing, and sales where it will take a minority stake. The postal service did not disclose how much it will be investing in these companies. The article does not provide operating metrics or other financial details about Starship.
