STAX Engineering, Inc.
65 Pine Avenue Suite 943, Long Beach, California, 90802, United States
Overview
STAX Engineering designs and operates a patented, flexible barge-based exhaust capture system that connects to ship stacks from the water to capture and filter emissions without vessel modification or berth-specific infrastructure. Its system is authorized by CARB for container ships, auto carriers, and tankers and is reported to remove up to 99% of particulate matter and 95% of nitrogen oxides. STAX began tanker service testing in early 2025, has supported tanker operations in Southern California since 2024, and has completed over 2,700 vessel calls totalling more than 46,000 treated hours and capturing over 350 tons of pollutants. Recent commercial agreements with IMTT and TransMontaigne expand its Northern California footprint and are expected to support more than 6,400 at-berth service hours through 2031. The company plans to scale deployments across California’s ports to meet demand ahead of CARB’s 2027 tanker compliance deadline. Its current financial position was strengthened by the $150 million financing commitment from Bain Capital to refinance existing debt and fund contracted builds through 2027.
