Overview
Stell develops a requirements-management platform that helps engineering teams track, verify and validate complex project requirements, with features like search, linking, permissioning and dual document/matrix views. The company shipped a first version of its product in June and is actively selling licenses; it has three early customers, all in the space industry. Stell was founded in 2022 by Malory McLemore and Anne Wen and currently has a team of six. The founders pivoted from an initial plan to digitize technical contracts to prioritize requirements management based on customer feedback. The product roadmap includes supply-chain-focused functions, connectivity for sharing digital specifications with suppliers and customers, and AI-enabled search. The company plans to use new capital to hire additional engineers and a compliance/cybersecurity lead while continuing iterative customer-driven product development. Stell is developing a software platform to replace low-tech parts-ordering workflows (spreadsheets, PDFs, emails) used across aerospace and defense. The product aims to digitize technical specifications, inspection and test deliverables, and supplier–customer communications within a single workflow. Founders Malory McLemore and Anne Wen drew on experience at Airbus, Raytheon and Hadrian to design the solution from both customer and supplier perspectives. The company is less than six months old and recently closed an oversubscribed $3.1M pre-seed round to expand the team and build the product. Stell is onboarding its first dedicated software engineer and is considering a design hire. The team plans to register under ITAR and target an alpha prototype with one–two customers by April, followed by a test period through the summer and a broader industry launch.
