Steminov

2 avenue de la forêt de Haye, Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy, Lorraine, 54500, France

Overview

Founded in 2019, Steminov develops cell-based biopharmaceuticals derived from the mesenchymal tissue (Wharton’s jelly) that surrounds the umbilical cord. Using an in-house 3D culture platform, the company expands this embryonic connective tissue to manufacture WhartSep, a patented therapy aimed at rapidly attenuating inflammation in cases of severe pneumonia. During the COVID-19 crisis, the product was offered to hospitals and demonstrated quick organ-protective effects, motivating Steminov to pursue full European regulatory approval. The firm now intends to industrialize production on the Illkirch campus, ensuring both a secure cell supply chain and a scalable economic model. Beyond its own drug programs, the company plans to provide Wharton’s jelly cells to external researchers and manufacturers. To fund these initiatives, Steminov has just raised €10.6 million. No revenue or user metrics have been disclosed to date.
