Stemma offers a managed data catalogue built on top of the open-source Amundsen project that its CEO helped launch at Lyft. The product adds features such as intelligence to surface personally relevant data and automatic metadata generation to create documentation on the fly. Stemma is positioning itself as an organization-level source of truth for data and launched its commercial product today. The company launched last fall when co-founders Mark Grover and Dorian Johnson joined forces and has been entirely remote since its COVID-era start. Today it has five employees in addition to the founders and plans to add several more this year while emphasizing diversity and inclusion in hiring. Amundsen — the open-source base — is used by 35 companies including Brex, Snap, and Asana, and had 750 weekly users at Lyft.
