Stockpile is a Palo Alto brokerage that offers fractional-share stock investing via mobile apps and a website, targeting millennials and family accounts. Customers can open free accounts for themselves or others, including children under 18, and purchase individual stocks or ETFs for $0.99 per trade. The platform supports automatic investment plans, investment tracking, free mini-lessons on stock investing, and the ability to buy e-gifts or physical gift cards redeemable for stock. Two-thirds of Stockpile’s customers are under the age of 35. The company is led by founder and CEO Avi Lele. Stockpile recently completed a Series B and has raised more than $45M in total to date. Stockpile is a five-year-old, 15-person Palo Alto–based brokerage services firm that sells stock gift cards and operates a consumer-friendly digital brokerage platform. Its core product is physical and digital gift cards that can be redeemed for company shares (including fractional ownership), switched to other stocks, or converted into traditional retailer gift cards. Users redeem codes via Stockpile’s website or mobile app; on-platform buy and sell transactions cost $0.99 each, while in-store gift cards carry a $4.95 fee that covers interchange and the cost of the trade. The company built a licensed, purely digital brokerage over four years to lower costs and paperwork, storing confirmations and statements electronically. Stockpile runs an open, partner-facing platform designed to be embedded in third-party apps, banks, and retail distribution channels and already cites partnerships with Blackhawk Network and planned placement in chains such as Kmart and major grocery retailers.
