Storj Labs is an Atlanta, GA–based distributed cloud storage provider that offers decentralized, end-to-end encrypted storage using blockchain technology and cryptography. Led by co-founder, CEO and CTO Shawn Wilkinson, Storj operates as an open-source project with a large developer community building privacy-by-design tools and applications. The platform creates a peer-to-peer network of “farmers” who rent out spare hard drive space and bandwidth. The company says this model produces a more secure, faster and less expensive alternative to traditional data center–based cloud storage. As of the report, Storj had more than 7,500 farmers and over 15,000 API users worldwide. The company intends to use the funding to advance its open-source distributed cloud storage platform.
