Strapi

Overview
Strapi is an open-source 'headless' CMS that lets developers connect and manage different databases, front-end frameworks and static site generators via an API. The project was published on GitHub in 2015 by founders Pierre Burgy, Aurélien Georget and Jim Laurie and was designed to enable customization through source-code access. Users run Strapi on a server and use its admin interface while front ends fetch content from Strapi using an API; it competes with Contentful, Storyblok and Sanity. The company is prioritizing improvements to the content-editing experience, including templates, publication workflows, rich text editors, custom fields and plugins for personalization, visualization and e-commerce. Strapi is developing Strapi Cloud, a fully managed service currently in beta and scheduled for general availability next year, and plans to add tech and solution partners. The company reports thousands of open-source users, 450 paying customers including AT&T, eBay, IBM and Toyota, a headcount of 70 expected to grow to about 110 by year-end, and has raised $45 million to date. Strapi is an open-source headless CMS that separates the back end from the front end, letting teams run Strapi on their own servers and manage content via an admin interface. Front ends fetch content from Strapi instances over APIs, enabling use of React, Vue, Angular or custom front-end stacks. The decoupled architecture lets teams swap or update front ends without changing the content back end, and supports static-site workflows (for example using Gatsby) delivered through CDNs like Cloudflare or AWS CloudFront. Strapi can distribute content to multiple front ends, such as a website and a mobile app, and is aimed at larger-scale applications. Notable companies using Strapi include IBM, NASA and Walmart. Financially, the company announced a $10 million Series A led by Index Ventures, following a prior $4 million seed in October 2019. Strapi is an open-source Node.js headless CMS that separates the content-management backend from custom front ends, letting developers fetch content via API. The platform supports SQLite, MongoDB, MySQL and Postgres and offers a customizable admin panel to surface only needed fields. Since its first GitHub release in 2015, Strapi has accumulated 500,000 downloads and 250 contributors to the open-source project. The company is building an ecosystem of plugins to expand CMS features and has plans to eventually launch a hosted version so users do not need to manage server infrastructure. Strapi is distributed so anyone can download and run it on their own server and integrate it with mobile apps or bespoke front ends. The product positioning emphasizes flexibility and performance versus traditional monolithic CMSs.
