Founded in 2011 by Milos Milisavljevic, Strawberry Energy develops solar-powered public chargers and a compact Smart Bench with sensors that can operate as part of a smart-city infrastructure. The company’s initial product, the Strawberry Tree, was the first solar-powered public charger; its main focus now is the more scalable Smart Bench. The team of 13 is based between Belgrade and London and the company is described as a Serbian startup. Strawberry Energy has installed around 100 benches in 31 cities and is present in 17 countries, with a goal of 200 units distributed by mid-2019 and a London milestone of 20 installed under contract. It generates revenue from sales and from monetizing bench advertising and free Wi‑Fi content, and plans to monetize environmental and pedestrian data. The startup is not yet profitable but has prior institutional backing and is preparing for another fundraising round.
