Overview
Streem is a cloud storage startup whose core product, Streem Drive, lets users access files as if they were stored locally while actually keeping all data in the cloud. The service is aimed at customers with large media libraries who outgrow the capacity and file-sync limitations of traditional offerings such as Dropbox. For a $20 per-month subscription, Streem promises unlimited storage, made economically feasible through aggressive de-duplication and compression techniques. Its technology is tuned for media consumption, dynamically adjusting video quality to match a user’s bandwidth. The company has already built native applications for Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, and web browsers, providing a full cross-platform experience. Founded by CEO Ritik Malhotra and currently participating in Y Combinator, Streem launched Streem Drive publicly just one week prior to the funding announcement. The startup has not yet disclosed user counts or revenue figures but positions its unlimited model as a direct alternative to hardware external drives and capped cloud plans. The recent seed financing provides initial capital to scale infrastructure and continue product development.
