Overview

Student.com operates a global marketplace listing accommodation for over 1,000 universities in more than 400 cities and provides over 1.25 million student beds. Since its 2011 founding the company has added 250,000 beds to its marketplace in 2018 alone. It has completed over $600 million in gross booking value to date and has raised $80 million in total funding. In 2019 the company is focused on upgrading its platform technology, systemising the native app experience and applying artificial intelligence to improve service. Student.com aims to hit $1 billion in cumulative gross booking value by the end of 2019. The company also maintains close partnerships with more than 100 top universities and lists investors such as CITIC Capital, VY Capital, Horizons Ventures, Expa, Daniel Ek, Martin Lorentzon, Hugo Barra and Jim Breyer. Student.com operates a global online marketplace that matches students with professional landlords across web, mobile and social. Launched in 2011 as Overseas Student Living (OSL) by CEO Luke Nolan and later joined by co-founders Shakil Khan and John‑Paul Jones, the company rebranded as Student.com in 2015. The platform operates in 11 languages and lets students search by university, neighbourhood or property, chat to experts, call a reservations team, request bookings and complete booking requests online. Each booking is assigned to a personal booking consultant who confirms details and delivers a contract within two to four days; students pay rent and deposits by card or bank transfer. The company has a team of 180 people with offices across five continents, including London, New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Student.com said it will use the $60M raised in its first external funding round to continue expanding operations worldwide.
