Overview

Studio is a social app that opens to a camcorder-like camera and lets groups record up to 10-second videos that are saved into private, shared albums called studios and aggregated daily as "episodes." The product intentionally eschews likes, comments and chat; users extend conversations by recording their own videos to continue an episode. The app launched to the general public after early testing with high-school users and creators who used it for clubs, teams and event highlights. Studio’s current offering is deliberately minimal — focused on the core mechanic rather than AR effects, filters or extensive editing tools — with plans to iterate via "micro-pivots" driven by user feedback. The company is New York–based and run by three co-founders: Matt Hidalgo, Aditya Mohile and Chris Chao, supported by two interns and hiring for a founding designer and founding engineer. Financially, Studio closed a $3.3 million seed round to support product development and growth.
