Overview
StudySmarter runs a content-agnostic lifelong learning platform that converts any text or content into interactive courses, summaries, flashcards and exercises, using natural language processing. Learners of all ages create and share materials on a single app rather than downloading multiple tools. The platform is used in more than 20 regions and users have created over 50 million learning materials, growing by about 5 million each month; StudySmarter reports 94% of learners who use the platform achieve better grades. The company has expanded into proprietary content with StudySmarter Originals, produced with more than 100 teachers and educators. Commercial partnerships include Pearson, and corporate deals with Amazon and BMW for non-intrusive recruitment and advertising. Financially, the company recently completed a €13.8M Series A extension following a €12.4M Series A in May; the fresh capital will be used to accelerate global expansion as the team has grown from 70 to over 300 employees. StudySmarter, launched in 2018 and based in Munich, provides a content‑agnostic lifelong learning platform that uses AI (NLP), OCR and spaced‑repetition algorithms to turn uploads into flashcards, exercises and adaptive study plans. The product combines a revision content marketplace with productivity tools (scan-to-content, a magic marker, smart flashcards, gamification and recommendation algorithms) to personalize learners' journeys. Users can create and share content; 25% of users are creators and the company hosts over 25 million pieces of shared content, 80% of which creators share publicly. The platform reports more than 1.5 million learners with a roughly 50/50 split between higher education and K12 users, and claims 94% of learners achieve better grades after using it. Monetization remains early-stage: StudySmarter has run some B2B pilots with employers and a corporate learning pilot but is prioritizing product development and global expansion. The company plans to expand into the U.K. and U.S. in the near term and target markets such as Brazil, India, Indonesia, France, the Nordics, Spain and Russia within the next 12 months.
