Stylect is an iOS shoe-shopping app that uses a Tinder-esque swipe interface and an in-house recommendation engine to help women discover and purchase shoes. The app aggregates over 50,000 shoes from leading retailers and learns from each user's swipes with a "social clustering algorithm" to surface personalized recommendations and notify users when liked items go on sale. Stylect launched a web prototype and then an iOS app in mid-November; early engagement metrics include about 20 million swipes overall, average users swiping over 400 shoes, some users swiping over 10,000, and one user swiping more than 43,000 in a few days. The company generates revenue through an affiliate model, receiving a kick-back whenever a user completes a purchase via a retailer link. The team says it will continue improving recommendations as it collects more data, aiming to improve mobile e-commerce and product discovery for women. Stylect is UK-based and was built by founders Giacomo Summa, Hadi Laasi, and Darius Jankauskas, with backgrounds at Rocket Internet and experience in accelerators including Oxygen and Techstars.
