Subitec develops and manufactures fully automated photobioreactors for industrial-scale microalgae production. Its core product is the flat panel airlift reactor (FPA), designed to ensure all algal cells are optimally supplied with light and to meet the preconditions for commercial mass production. The company produces biomass from strains including Chlorella vulgaris, Isochrysis aff. galbana (clone T. iso), Haematococcus pluvialis and Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Subitec completed a €4.5M second financing and intends to use the proceeds to launch its bioreactors on the international market and to continue investing in R&D. Founded in 2000 as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB), the company is led by Managing Director Dr. Peter Ripplinger.
