Subtext
St. Louis, Missouri, United States
Overview
Subtext offers a social eBook reading experience on the iPad that lets users add and explore marginalia, author commentary, links, images and multimedia without disrupting reading. Readers can engage in conversations with friends, community members, and authors even if they are reading at different paces. The app automatically pulls in supplementary information and community reactions to add context to books. At launch Subtext's shelf includes 18 books, including titles by Nathaniel West, Amy Stewart and Max Barry, and the company is collaborating with authors backed by publishers such as HarperCollins, Hachette, Penguin, Random House and Simon & Schuster. Subtext's free iPad app is available on the App Store. The company raised $3 million in seed funding from a group of investors to support its product and growth.
