Sunscreen develops developer tools, including a compiler, to make it easier for engineers to build fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) programs. The company was co-founded last year by Ravital Solomon alongside threshold-cryptography veteran MacLane Wilkison, who is now an advisor. Sunscreen has three full-time employees, including Solomon, and is focused on lowering the cost and complexity of FHE for real-world use cases such as privacy-preserving financial computations and fraud detection. The team launched a grants program allocating up to $500,000 (with $50,000–$75,000 per project) to fund developer, academic, and research proposals that utilize FHE. Sunscreen says FHE is complementary to zero-knowledge proofs and plans long-term to build a new layer-one blockchain with a bridge to Ethereum to enable integrations and combine ZKPs and FHE at lower cost. Financially, the company is early-stage and using grant funding and outside capital to support tooling and research.
