Supermonkey

Jinxiu North St, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Overview

Super Monkey operates nearly 70 self-operated offline studios in top-tier Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Wuhan and Chongqing. Its core offering is retailed group fitness classes, and it has expanded into long-cycled training camps, B2B training under "Super Monkey Academy," and brand derivative products. In early 2019 the company launched "SUPERMONKEY Mini" for one‑on‑one personal training and small-group classes and planned expansion to Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, with a broader push toward nationwide personal training services. Management is positioning Super Monkey as a lifestyle brand addressing users' needs across training, catering, accessories and travel while pacing user growth. Operationally the company has developed an office administration system (updated 80 times) and initiated city partnerships to support rapid expansion and talent management. The company planned to open 100 new group-class studios across its nine cities by 2019 and emphasizes training and talent development through Super Monkey Academy to staff that growth. Supermonkey operates a paid group-class fitness model that turns traditional free gym classes into a retail system of purchasable group courses. The company offers about 100 types of classes (44 are especially popular), uses Les Mills content while developing its own proprietary courses, and has established a "Supermonkey Academy" for trainer training and R&D. It currently has fewer than 30 locations and a staff of roughly 150, about 50 of whom work in backend R&D; average daily classes in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen reach about 10. Management says it devotes 20% of annual profits to internal R&D and runs a personal-trainer agent program to recruit and develop instructors. Supermonkey plans rapid national expansion, targeting roughly 100 locations in 2018 and entry into Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Nanjing, and is exploring B2B content licensing to other gyms. The company’s valuation already exceeds ¥1 billion and founders cite substantial member upsell potential based on backend data.
