Overview

SurDoc provides an online service that lets users upload text, spreadsheet and presentation files and share them across computers and mobile devices without losing formatting. Unlike PDFs, SurDoc aims to avoid requiring special readers and to reduce PDF-related vulnerabilities. The product is live as a trial and currently offers 10 GB of storage, with a promotional 20 GB code for TechCrunch readers. SurDoc's technology is based on UOML, a new document standard led by founder Alex Wang and approved by OASIS. OASIS membership includes Google, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, the U.S. Department of Defense and the University of California. The service currently supports annotations and imports formats including .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, ODF, PDF, XPS, SVG and HTML, with plans to add full fidelity for Google Docs.
