SurgeonsLab develops realistic, patient-specific 3D physical models and 4D simulators for training microsurgical procedures and catheter-based endovascular interventions and for validating new medical devices. Using medical image data, the company creates detailed 3D simulation models of a patient’s head anatomy, including micro-anatomies and functional/physiological properties, in less than 48 hours after receiving CT data. Neurosurgeons use these models in a 4D simulator to practice microsurgery and improve accuracy in the operating room. The startup’s prototype was tested and its feasibility validated by neurosurgeons at Inselspital Bern in 2019. Compared with existing manikins and animal models, SurgeonsLab says it is the only solution that achieves the accuracy and detail required to train microsurgery and catheter-based micro-interventions. The company plans a product launch event in July 2021 at SITEM Insel in Bern, has received several pre-orders including from Inselspital Bern and Harvard Medical School, and intends to scale production and pursue early overseas market entry.
