Swiftmile
1010 Commercial Blvd, San Carlos, CA, 94070, United States
Overview
Swiftmile builds and deploys smart charging stations for electric bikes and scooters in urban areas. The company installs charging hubs and charges vehicle operators by the minute, with market-dependent caps on fees. Initially the docking system is open to all operators to demonstrate value; after a trial period Swiftmile will only charge its customers' scooters. Swiftmile currently has 150 smart-charging stations deployed throughout the U.S. With the new funding it plans to deploy systems in three additional U.S. cities and to expand into Europe. The company has raised a total of $11 million to date. Swiftmile supplies cities and operators with intelligent docks that park and charge scooters and e-bikes, detecting scooter identity to selectively charge customers. Its system charges operators by the minute (capped by market) and can be open to all operators initially before restricting charging to customers. Swiftmile positions its hubs as a ‘gas station’ for micromobility, helping cities reduce sidewalk clutter and improving riders’ access to charged vehicles. The company has deployed more than 50 U.S. stations, launched a mobility hub in Berlin, and plans to deploy about 50 stations in Pittsburgh in early 2020. In Austin it plans to start with 10 stations (roughly 80 parking slips) by the end of the year and will operate a vehicle-agnostic public system there. Swiftmile began as a bike-share operator for private companies, including Tesla and Google.
