Overview
SwiftStack builds enterprise object storage based on the OpenStack Swift platform, offering products such as the SwiftStack Management Service and SwiftStack Controller to simplify provisioning, replication and monitoring of large storage clusters. The company is the largest contributor to the OpenStack Swift project and sells additional services on top of the open source core. Current customers include HP, Disney and Time Warner Cable. SwiftStack reported 4x growth over the past year despite having almost no marketing or sales staff. It says it will use new funding to scale efforts to enable massive storage scalability and to expand go-to-market and customer-engagement activities. After this round the company has raised $23.6 million in total funding. SwiftStack builds a software-defined storage solution focused on object storage that decouples management from the underlying storage infrastructure. Its platform lets customers create pools of storage on commodity hardware, aiming to bring the flexibility and scalability of public cloud storage into private data centers. The company says this simplifies operations, reduces operational costs, and enables application developers and operations teams to support more applications on-premises. CEO Joe Arnold said more applications can be supported using SwiftStack’s platform. Mayfield Fund managing director Navin Chaddha described the offering as "kind of like Amazon S3-in-a-box." The company will use the new funding to expand its sales team, operations, and product development.
