Swimm
Daniel Frisch 3, Tel Aviv, 6473104, Israel
Overview
Swimm provides a developer documentation solution that prompts engineers to create docs, makes them easier to author, and flags documentation that falls out of date. The product embeds documentation alongside code in users' repositories and integrates with IDEs and GitHub so docs go through the same CI and delivery pipeline as code. Swimm is language-agnostic and treats documentation as code, allowing it to follow codebase changes and surface outdated docs. The company released its product in beta concurrent with the fundraise. Swimm launched in 2019 and currently employs about 30 people, with staff in Tel Aviv, a couple in the U.S., and one in Berlin; the team is over 40% women and the company plans to increase that to about half as it hires. Financially, Swimm announced a $27.6M Series A and has now raised $33.3M in total. Swimm provides tooling that helps teams create auto-updated documentation, walkthroughs and tutorials tied directly to source code. Its code browser surfaces all documentation related to a given file and the product automatically updates code examples or alerts developers when manual updates are needed. The tool runs locally on developers' machines so no code is sent to Swimm's servers, a design that reduced security concerns and attracted early customers in the security sector. The founding team developed the product based on experiences running Israel Tech Challenge, a coding bootcamp inspired by the Israeli Defence Forces' 8200 unit. Swimm has focused on building the core product with design partners and its first paying customers and plans to expand its user base after launching the beta. The company raised funding to accelerate product development and go-to-market efforts.
