Overview
Swing is a South Korean electric scooter and micromobility startup that operates e-scooters, e-bikes and e-mopeds with a swappable, interchangeable battery system. It offers a shared-mobility service via the Swing app and recently launched Dayrider, an app that lets delivery riders rent e-mopeds or e-scooters for one- or two-day periods. Swing currently operates a fleet of 35,000 electric vehicles, works with more than 50 franchise partners, and employs over 100 people in South Korea (plus four in Japan). The company has set up a subsidiary in Japan and plans a Tokyo launch as it seeks to expand internationally. For 2022 Swing plans to deploy 100,000 vehicles and install 200 charging stations for its use and as options for others. Financially, Swing has raised about $33 million total since its 2019 founding and has reported net profits since its second year, although ridership fell after tightened e-scooter regulations impacted demand.
