Overview
Switchfly is a San Francisco-based travel ecommerce platform that powers dynamic packaging, loyalty and other online travel solutions for airlines, financial services companies, hotels and other travel brands worldwide. Its platform uses a data-driven approach and a global network of ancillary merchandise for activities, air, car, hotel and insurance to help partners optimize inventory and revenue management, maximize conversion rates and increase consumer engagement. Partners include airlines such as American Airlines, LATAM and Avianca; loyalty programs including IAG Avios and American Airlines Advantage; hospitality groups including InterContinental Hotels Group, Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts; and financial services companies including American Express and MasterCard. The company intends to use the funds to enhance its loyalty and dynamic packaging solutions, build a network of content and ancillaries in its marketplace for customers, and drive additional innovation across its product portfolio. Switchfly plans to incorporate new technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence into its offering. Switchfly builds white-label travel commerce and loyalty redemption platforms and a loyalty payments engine that lets loyalty members book hotels and rental cars with points and cash. The company works with more than 300,000 travel suppliers, loyalty programs and payment providers, including AirAsia, American Airlines, United Airlines, Starwood, InterContinental, JetBlue, American Express and PayPal. Switchfly processes an estimated $750 million in travel transactions across 100 countries annually and facilitates redemption of more than 20 billion reward points each year. Founded in 2003, the company operates a back-end platform used by airlines, hotels and payment providers to convert points into travel and merchandise. Switchfly recently acquired Topguest, a loyalty program focused on rewarding social engagement, and plans to launch a digital wallet product in partnership with PayPal to let members use points anywhere PayPal is accepted. The new funding will be used for product development and to expand the company’s global operations.
