Swytch
Unit 5, 455 Wick Lane, London, Greater London, E3 2TB, United Kingdom
Overview
Swytch Technology sells a retrofit e-bike conversion kit that includes a front wheel with a 250W hub motor, a snap-on pedal sensor and a removable battery that mounts to the handlebars. The company’s original battery was housed in a handlebar bag; it has developed a new, much smaller battery about the size of a large iPhone that weighs 1.5 lb (700 g), delivers 250 watts and is claimed to provide enough range for a daily commute. The kit is designed for a quick conversion that takes only a few minutes and requires only a hex key. Swytch has sold almost 40,000 units of its original kit and currently sells about 20,000 units per year; the existing product retails for $1,300 and the new kit’s price has not been listed. The company was founded in 2017 and is based in London; it opened an office in New York earlier this year to service the US market. Swytch’s CTO and co-founder Dmitro Khroma described the new kit as a “game-changer” and said it will disrupt the e-bike industry due to its smaller, lighter battery; the company expects the new kit to help it target annual sales of 50,000 units.
