Syllable is an AI-enabled healthcare automation company based in Sunnyvale, Calif., led by CEO Kobus Jooste. The company offers the Syllable Patient Assistant, an intelligent voice solution that engages patients via phone, web, and SMS. The assistant connects patients with information and care and helps them navigate healthcare options with empathy, transparency, and intelligence from the moment they request care. Syllable targets health system call centers and medical practice offices as primary use cases. The company raised $40M in a Series C to further develop its assistant for those settings. The round included participation from existing investors Oak HC/FT, Section32, and Verily. Syllable has built an AI platform that answers every call received by a hospital and enables automated workflows and self-service options to help patients find and take the correct next step in their healthcare journey. The platform also seamlessly introduces patients to a human agent for situations that require a human touch for successful call resolution. In March 2020 Syllable launched a COVID-19 assistant and has since expanded that assistant to support vaccine distribution, including outbound voice and SMS campaigns. Since 2017 Syllable’s solutions have been in use by some of the largest and most respected healthcare providers across the United States. The company plans to use new funding to scale partnerships with health systems, deploy with payers, and grow its team. The product focus is on modernizing the healthcare contact center to reduce long hold times, transfers, and dead ends that frustrate patients.
