Overview
Sylvatex has developed a proprietary waterless, continuous production method for cathode active materials (CAM), focused on LFP-based cathodes for lithium-ion batteries. The company’s nanomaterial platform and continuous synthesis approach aim to enable simpler, high-yield manufacturing and broaden acceptable material inputs. Sylvatex projects up to a 25% reduction in CAM cost, a 40% reduction in plant capital requirements, and up to an 80% reduction in energy usage, while eliminating water consumption versus incumbent processes. ARPA-E provided $500k to demonstrate feasibility of producing low-cost LFP materials with a controlled continuous approach and to validate cathode performance in two common LIB designs. SVX recently closed an $8.4 million Series A led by Catalus Capital to support commercialization and scale-up. These advances target the large CAM market—projected to reach $189 billion by 2032—and aim to help meet an expected up-to-tenfold increase in global lithium-ion capacity and the estimated need for roughly 100 additional CAM plants by 2032.
