Overview

Founded in 2021 by former Mace project manager Sarah Crawley and chartered mechanical engineer John Ryan, UK-based SymTerra targets the construction sector’s costly communication gaps, a problem estimated at $280 billion annually. Its cloud platform lets on-site workers share photos, videos, updates and records in real time, structuring the data so decision-makers can act quickly across the project lifecycle. The system is designed for simplicity and inclusivity, driving adoption even in complex, multi-stakeholder infrastructure projects, and it interoperates with existing BIM, ERP and other asset-management software so teams need not change their workflows. SymTerra differentiates itself from incumbents like Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud by focusing on communication rather than form-filling or compliance. Following a £1.4 million pre-seed round, the company reached profitability. With the new capital, it plans to accelerate product development and broaden deployment across infrastructure projects collectively valued at more than £10 billion. The founding team emphasizes diversity, noting that the product was conceived and built by women with direct construction and engineering experience.
