Overview

Synklino is a Copenhagen, Denmark-based biotech focused on developing new drugs to treat chronic viral infections, notably cytomegalovirus (CMV). Its lead candidate is SYN002, being advanced for the treatment of CMV. The company plans to use the Series A proceeds to advance SYN002 into both ex vivo and in vivo Phase 1 clinical trials to generate safety and efficacy data. Those data are intended to establish a foundation for expanding the company’s pipeline and widening strategic options for further value creation. CMV is a widespread β‑herpesvirus that establishes lifelong latent infection and poses a major unmet medical need, particularly in immunosuppressed transplant patients. Synklino is led by CEO Thomas Kledal and has secured financing to support its clinical development plans. Synklino is a Copenhagen-based biotech spinout from the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark led by CEO Thomas Kledal. The company is developing a first-in-class treatment to eliminate cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in the transplant setting. Its lead drug candidate, SYN002, is designed to target both lytic and latent CMV infection, with the stated potential to eliminate the virus from infected patients. CMV commonly infects adults and is a major cause of infectious complications after transplantation, increasing morbidity, transplant complications and hospital readmissions. Synklino is incubated at the BioInnovation Institute's Creation House program. The company closed a seed financing round of undisclosed size led by Eir Ventures and Vaekstfonden.
