Synuca Therapeutics

Gustav Wieds Vej 10C, Aarhus, Midtjylland, 8000, Denmark

Overview

Founded in 2025 in Aarhus, Denmark, Synuca Therapeutics builds on decades of Aarhus University research in P-type ATPases and neuroscience. The company is engineering small-molecule modulators of the SERCA calcium transporter to restore neuronal calcium balance disrupted by pathological α-Synuclein, aiming to create a first-in-class disease-modifying therapy for Parkinson’s Disease and associated synucleinopathies. Synuca is the inaugural startup supported through BioInnovation Institute’s €42 million innovation partnership with Lundbeckfonden. To date it has obtained €1.8 million in non-dilutive funding from BII, comprising an initial €500 k grant and a new €1.3 million follow-on award. The fresh capital will be used to accelerate lead optimisation, expand mechanistic studies and prepare for pre-clinical development. Participation in BII’s Venture House programme also provides the team with lab space, commercial support and mentorship. The company is still pre-revenue with no clinical trials yet initiated.
