Overview
Systemic Bio is a newly formed, fully owned 3D Systems subsidiary developing vascularized organ models and an organ-on-a-chip platform called h-VIOS for pharmaceutical drug discovery. It combines 3D Systems’ Print to Perfusion technology and capabilities acquired from Allevi and Volumetric Biotechnologies to produce hydrogel-based, high-resolution scaffolds seeded with human cells. The company says its custom chips can be produced at ten times the speed and resolution of current platforms at a Houston, Texas facility. Systemic Bio plans to market tissues and accessories to pharmaceutical partners for drug safety and efficacy screening and is offering the h-VIOS platform to select initial partners. 3D Systems backed the spinout with $15 million in seed funding and has appointed former Allevi CSO Taci Pereira to lead commercialization. The company aims to generate $100 million in annual revenue by 2027 and believes its tissues can reduce drug R&D costs and lead times by better simulating human immune responses.
