Overview
Takeoff Technologies builds automated microfulfillment centers (MFCs) that store groceries in compact, vertical rows and use robots to pull items and assemble orders in minutes for grocery retailers. The company integrates its technology with established retailers so orders placed online are fulfilled by Takeoff’s automated systems at a hyperlocal scale. Takeoff holds exclusivity with Knapp and commercial partnerships with Albertsons, Ahold Delhaize, Wakefern, Sedano’s in the U.S. and Woolworths in Australia, which the company says readies its robotics for scale. The business was co-founded by Jose V. Aguerrevere and Max Pedro in 2016 and is based in Boston, MA. The company intends to use new funds to accelerate rollout across North America, Europe and Australia. To date the company has raised a total of $86M. Takeoff Technologies builds robot-powered automated fulfillment systems and mini-warehouses to transform grocery ordering and fulfillment. The company’s automated inventory-management platform can reportedly fill an order in less than 15 minutes. Takeoff’s approach supports both customer pickup and home delivery and is designed to shrink store footprints to as little as 3,000 square feet. By cutting labor and real estate costs through automation, Takeoff aims to drastically lower grocery prices. The company disclosed a $12.5 million funding round in an SEC filing, with 13 investors participating and Annette Franqui of Forrestal Capital listed as one of the directors.
