Talko is developing communications software and cloud-based mobile backend (MBaaS) services to support mobile applications. An SEC filing shows the company raised $4 million to fund development of its mobile communications apps and backend services. Formerly known as Cocomo, Talko plans to provide backend cloud services likely delivered via an API, enabling developers to focus on app development rather than backend setup. The team includes Ray Ozzie, co-founder Matt Pope, and executive Ransom Richardson, who have prior experience at Groove Networks and Microsoft. Talko is positioned to compete in the MBaaS market alongside Kinvey, Parse, FeedHenry, Apigee, and Kii Cloud. The MBaaS niche aims to bridge legacy systems with modern cloud services by offering APIs, data stores, push notifications, analytics, and other backend features. Ozzie’s background—creator of Lotus Notes and former Microsoft chief software architect—aligns with the company’s emphasis on backend and legacy-system integration.
