Overview
Tannico is a web and mobile ecommerce platform for wine led by co-founder and CEO Marco Magnocavallo. The platform sells over 10,000 labels from 2,000 emerging and established producers in more than 20 countries. The company offers an app on iOS and Android. According to reports, Tannico had €6.8m in revenue in 2016. The firm plans to use new funding to launch a B2B Horeca platform (Tannico.biz), advance retail projects including opening WineBar Tannico in Milan, continue developing Tannico.it, and potentially expand into Asia. Tannico is based in Milan, Italy. Tannico operates an online fine-wine marketplace that aggregates long-tail supply from over 1,000 wineries and stocks more than 6,000 wines. The company says it employs big data and artificial intelligence to build a "taste DNA" for each customer and power an "Automated Sommelier" recommendation feature. Launched in 2012 and based in Milan, Tannico claims a 15% share of the Italian online wine market. Last year it sold 250,000 bottles to roughly 40,000 customers. The founder, ex-VC Marco Magnocavallo, designed the business to exploit low online penetration in Italy (about 0.2%) and the country's large winery base. Tannico plans international expansion, targeting the UK next and then Switzerland and France.
