Overview

Taoglas is a San Diego–based provider of antennas, advanced IoT components, and custom design services that helps customers navigate complex RF and wireless systems. Founded in 2004 and led by CEO Dermot O’Shea and co-founder Ronan Quinlan, the company offers substantial engineering resources, in-house testing, and pre-certification capabilities. It supplies connectivity solutions across mobility, infrastructure, transportation, medical, industrial, and smart city verticals. Taoglas intends to use new capital to expand in-house RF engineering expertise and global design capabilities, develop new products, and broaden sales channels and its customer base. The company received a majority investment from Graham Partners; financial terms were not disclosed. Taoglas, founded in 2004 and headquartered in Enniscorthy, specialises in IoT antenna technology and RF services and operates subsidiaries in the US, Germany and Taiwan. Its ZRM project combines antenna elements, a data router and a WiFi transceiver into a technology platform intended to provide an 'always online' solution for fixed and mobile applications such as rail, buses and marine. The company says the platform is versatile, scalable and offers back-haul bandwidth for mobile applications and aims to reduce customer product development time and component costs. Taoglas secured €630,000 in funding from the European Space Agency to commercialise the ZRM product and that funding enabled the hire of six high-skilled engineers to develop the platform. According to 2015 accounts, turnover almost doubled to €27m, net profit was €3m and accumulated profits reached €7m; through 2015 the group employed 26 people in Ireland, 65 in Taiwan and 36 in the US. Founders Ronan Quinlan and Dermot O'Shea remain joint managing directors and majority shareholders, and the company provides an entire antenna design and supply chain solution to simplify connectivity deployments.
