Taptu

5350 South Rosyln Street Suite 210, Greenwood Village, CO, 80111, United States

Overview

Taptu develops platforms, tools and mobile applications that enable personalized creation, curation, recommendation, search, discovery, management, consumption and sharing of content across screen-based devices. Its consumer-facing Android and iOS news reader apps are core products, and the company plans ongoing feature additions including video, keyword-based search streams and user accounts. Taptu is building Tapform, a product and set of APIs to let developers, publishers and hardware manufacturers create their own personalized social news aggregators. The Tapform APIs will expose functionality currently available only within Taptu’s apps. The company also plans to develop an HTML5 web version to broaden availability. Taptu was founded in 2006 and is led by CEO Mitch Lazar. It operates out of Cambridge, England and Denver, Colorado. Taptu is a UK-based mobile "social search" engine that enables users to search on mobile and share results via email, text messaging, mobile-to-mobile and Twitter. The company reports about 1 million mobile searches a day. In January 2008 Taptu launched an API to let third-party sites tailor results; the first partner was Moblr, which allows viewing uploaded videos on mobile. The startup recently closed a £6.45m ($9.86m) Series B from existing investors 3i and Sofinnova. It appointed Andreas Bernstrom as COO to grow the company commercially and work on monetizing the search engine; Bernstrom was previously COO at TradeDoubler. Founder and CEO Steves Ives previously founded Trigenix, which was acquired by Qualcomm in 2004.
