Tara.ai uses machine learning to scope engineering work, predict required tasks, suggest frameworks and timelines, and monitor project execution. The platform maps internal staff expertise and external recruiting sources to recommend who should execute work, and aims to source contractors or hires when needed. The company says about 75% of its users are non-technical; customers include Cisco, Orange Silicon Valley and Mower Digital. Tara.ai originated as Gradberry out of Y Combinator and was cofounded by Iba Masood (CEO) and Syed Ahmed. The product is positioned as a virtual project manager / assistant to existing project managers and aims to reduce lost time and costs McKinsey attributes to poor planning and talent gaps. Future product plans include integrating databases of external consultants, tighter integrations with communication tools (notably Slack), bug-prediction features, and an updated AI engine to be released alongside the funding.
