Tawkers offers an iPhone app that lets users publish their text-message conversations to a public platform, creating a forum for text-based conversations from phones. Founder Blake Ian, described as a musician-producer-marketing-and-tech-entrepreneur, began building the app in 2012 and launched a beta in summer 2013. The platform positions itself as a hybrid of messaging and publishing aimed at content creators and consumers. In beta the service attracted some celebrity users, including Deepak Chopra and Colin Quinn, and the company says it provides a way for celebrities to engage with fans and curate conversation. As of the report the app had roughly 3,000 registered users without any marketing. The company has raised $1 million in seed financing from angel investors and ShadowPR.
