Taxdoo
Hermannstraße 13, Hamburg, Germany
Overview
Taxdoo offers API-first software that automates VAT calculation, transaction data extraction, filing, and related accounting and invoicing tasks for e-commerce sellers and marketplaces. Its platform integrates with more than 1,700 marketplaces, merchants, and enterprises, and connects to systems like Xentral, Shopify, Afterbuy, eBay, and Amazon. Taxdoo has opened its platform to third-party developers so partners can build apps on top of its APIs. The company is positioning itself to expand beyond compliance into a broader financial operating system for commerce, including features like pro forma invoices and other adjacent tools. Leadership includes co-founders Matthias Allmendinger, Roger Gothmann, and Christian Königsheim, who are economics PhDs and helped build the product from VAT research. Taxdoo is based in Hamburg and plans to use new funding to expand further across Europe. Taxdoo provides an automated platform that aggregates transaction data from marketplaces, shops and ERP systems to handle tax and financial compliance for cross-border e-commerce. The product automates transaction-level data ingestion, tax calculation and VAT filings across Europe and enables collaboration with local tax advisors and export to sellers’ accounting systems. Its workflow uses automated connectors, regulatory analysis and an international network of tax partners to prepare and file required returns. Typical customers sell on multiple marketplaces with annual revenues around €5–10 million, while the largest clients are global consumer brands with revenues of €150 million and above. The company cites market tailwinds, noting cross-border transactions represent roughly 25% of e-commerce in Western Europe and Scandinavia and continue to grow. Taxdoo plans to invest in international expansion, increased hiring, R&D, sales and customer support following the fundraise. Taxdoo provides an API platform that automatically collects data from marketplaces, online shops and ERP systems and processes it in line with international VAT regulations. The system collects and monitors relevant data daily and submits it to the respective financial authorities through an international network of VAT experts. Processed data can be transferred into financial accounting systems, and the platform allows external developers to incorporate additional data sources and integrate individual Taxdoo products. Taxdoo aims to enable larger companies across industries to manage their VAT compliance via the platform. The company began as an EXIST project at the University of Hamburg in April 2016 and commenced operations in early 2017. Its revenues are already in six-figure territory.
