Teal Bio develops a patent-pending reusable respiratory personal protective equipment platform featuring a transparent, medical-grade silicone mask body and replaceable, substantially biodegradable filters. The silicone body can be sanitized with simple alcohol wipes and the snap-in filters are designed for daily replacement, aiming to reduce waste compared with disposable N95s while improving comfort and communication for healthcare workers. The company positions its product as cost-efficient, sustainable and less obtrusive than single-use masks. Teal Bio raised an oversubscribed $2.45 million Series A led by Caligan Partners LP, with continued participation from seed investor Innocreative Capital. Proceeds will be used to complete development and pursue regulatory approval for the lead product, which the company expects in 2022. Teal Bio operates out of Greentown Labs in Somerville, MA and was founded by Dr. Robert Langer, Dr. Giovanni Traverso, Jason Troutner, Adam Wentworth and Dr. James Byrne; the company is led by CEO Tony Casciano.
