TeamGenius, founded in 2016 and based in Minneapolis, offers an easy-to-use athlete evaluation platform that helps coaches manage tryouts and camps. The company acquired xHockeyDevelopment in September 2020, an at-home training app built by former NHL star Bryce Salvador. TeamGenius plans to spin that app into a broader virtual training platform for youth athletes. It will use the new funding to expand its core evaluation product and fuel growth of the virtual training offering. Company leaders say the combined evaluation and training products will help players understand skills to improve and practice those skills from home.
