Overview
Tecton automates the process of building, storing and serving real-time machine-learning features through a managed feature store and orchestration platform. The platform stores feature values across training and deployment environments, monitors pipelines (including latency and processing costs), and can retrieve historical features for production training. Tecton also hosts the open-source feature store Feast, which reuses existing cloud or on-premises hardware rather than requiring dedicated infrastructure. Typical use cases include fraud detection, recommender systems, search, underwriting, personalization and real-time pricing, and the company highlights integrations with Databricks, Snowflake and Redis. Operationally, Tecton reports hundreds of active users, a customer base that quintupled over the past year, ARR that tripled from 2021 to 2022, and gross margins above 80%; the company has 80 employees. Tecton plans to use new capital to scale engineering and go-to-market teams and expects to hire about 20 people over the next six months. Tecton.ai offers an end-to-end machine learning feature store that handles pipelines to transform data into feature values, stores and manages feature data, and serves consistent feature sets for production ML applications. The company was founded by three former Uber engineers and positions its product as the feature-management layer in a broader ML stack alongside model training and serving systems. It announced the general availability of its platform at the time of the Series B. Tecton cites AWS’s SageMaker Feature Store as validation of the feature-store category. The company has been growing headcount (from 17 to 26 since April) and plans to more than double its staff by the end of next year. Financially, Tecton has raised $60 million to date following this latest round. Tecton.ai offers a platform that morphs raw data into AI models, with a focus on operational models and a feature store to enable seamless handoffs between data scientists and engineers. The company was founded by three former Uber engineers who helped build the Michelangelo AI platform; Mike Del Balso is CEO and co-founder. Tecton’s product is designed to streamline data pipelines, reduce time spent on data wrangling, and support high-scale, real-time model use cases. The platform is currently in private beta and includes cutting-edge features aimed at production, collaboration, visibility, and reusability. Financially, Tecton announced a $20 million investment from Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia and previously raised a $5 million angel round last year. The new funding is expected to accelerate the company’s innovation and product development.
