Telerivet combines a web-based messaging platform with an Android app that turns a phone into a local SMS gateway, allowing organizations to send and receive SMS without continuous Internet connectivity. The product lets non-programmers set up text campaigns, polls and automated workflows using a local number routed through the phone and Telerivet's cloud servers. The company targets businesses and non-profits in East Africa and other developing regions where most people have SMS-capable phones but limited Internet access. Before this funding, Telerivet was bootstrapped for nearly a year and had signed up dozens of customers across countries including India, Paraguay and Somalia; Kiva.org is a notable user. Pricing tiers run roughly $10 to $100 per month. The company plans to use the new funding to scale the product and expand sales to local SMEs, initially focused on East Africa.
