Overview
Telos is a decentralized blockchain ecosystem launched in 2018 that includes Telos EVM—the project describes it as the world’s fastest EVM—and Telos Zero, a high-speed native consensus layer. Its core product roadmap centers on a hardware-accelerated, SNARKtor-powered Ethereum Layer 2 zkEVM designed to provide succinct proofs and improved scalability. Telos is also incubating SNARKtor Labs, a Hong Kong-based business unit focused on accelerating ZK-proving infrastructure; the unit’s mandate ties its interests to the TLOS token and directs profits to buy and hold TLOS. The Telos team is co-developing the L2 with ZK research firm Ponos Technology and plans significant activity concentrated in the Asia Pacific region. Telos accepted a strategic $1 million investment from Presto Labs to expedite completion of the L2 and to grow SNARKtor Labs. The Telos Foundation oversees the networks and the project was launched without an ICO or VC funding. Telos is a blockchain platform that supports smart contracts written for both EVM/Solidity and EOS.IO/C++, offering Telos EVM and the Telos Decide governance engine for DAOs and dapps. The article describes Telos EVM as a powerful, scalable Ethereum Virtual Machine that leverages the speed and scale of EOS.IO. Telos launched its mainnet in 2018 and until this strategic sale had funded itself entirely by bootstrapping with no ICO or VC investment. The project is completing its Telos EVM mainnet launch and is preparing for major exchange listings and expansion of its DeFi ecosystem. Financially, Telos sold eight million TLOS tokens for $8 million in a strategic deal that purchased approximately 1.7% of the total token supply; tokens were trading at $0.90 and investors paid a $0.10 premium. Proceeds were deposited to an Ethereum gnosis safe and will be primarily disbursed to the Telos Foundation for marketing, Telos Core Developers for development, and a community-managed Telos liquidity fund to boost ecosystem liquidity.
